Blue Marlin 3 Annual Report 2005
---------------
We Prefer to Tag and Release All Billfish

2005 turned out to be the year of new and improved boat records. At least 17 new records were set.

During the first three months, the technique mostly used was bottom fishing. When bottom fishing we focussed mainly on two different depths, ranging from 20 to 25 meters or from 40 to 60 meters. The depth ranging from 20 to25 meter, forms the habitat of various kinds of rays. Where as the depth ranging from 40 to 60 meters, at the reef of Puerto Rico, offered us the opportunity to catch Barracudas, Snappers, Skip-Jack Tunas, Murenes and an occasional Ray.

January and February always means minimal tidal current and are therefore the best months to catch rays, in other words…fishing at a depth ranging from 20 to 25 meters. 2005 proved to be no different from the previous years, the largest rays were caught during these first two months.

March and April normally proof to be great for catching tuna, unfortunately 2005 did not meet this expectation. The catches were great, for any kind of fish but Tuna. Most guests who came especially to Gran Canaria during "Tuna Season" got disappointed, for only e few caught a Tuna. Hopefully the Tuna will be plenty again in 2006. Of course there is always an exception, an in this case it was a rather good one. American sport angler mister J. Shwinning set the new boat record by landing a Blue-fin Tuna, weighing 132 kilos, during the first week of May.

Luckily, Marlin season was a good season. Especially the "elderly" anglers stepped into the spotlights. During may 2005 Dutch sport angler mister Wim van den Berk, despite (or because) the age of 63, tagged and released a beautiful Blue Marlin. And believe it or not, when Wim and his wife Marian came down to Gran Canaria to enjoy an other week of sunshine, success was on his side, again. For the second time he tagged and released a Blue Marlin.

Wim's "age record" was proudly set , but already broken after no longer than two months.

Mister James Rasmussen , a famous singer and troubadour in his own country, tagged and released a magnificent Blue Marlin. James caught his dream fish at the wonderful age of 67. It goes to show, that one's never to old to learn.

During the months of September, October and November the Skip Jack Tunas, Barracudas, Snappers, Wahoo, and Rays were plenty and were caught easily.

The number of people visiting our new web site has rapidly increased. 170 000 visitations were registered by the end of 2004, against 215 000 registered by the end of November 2005.

At the end of November, the hurricane Delta, crossed also the south-west coast of Gran Canaria. On the photo you would see the results of this storm.

Our first departure of the new year , will be at 5th January 2006 , after we've returned from our holidays.

I would like to wish all visitors to our web site, customers, friends and acquaintances, happy holidays and a prosperous 2006, may the fish be plenty!
