Distribution:
Eastern Atlantic: Bay of Biscay, Mediterranean, and along the West African coast from Straits of Gibraltar to Angola. Also known from Madeira, Cape Verde and the Canary Is.
Biology:
Gregarious, forms aggregations over rocky bottoms or seagrass beds (Zostera and seaweeds). Omnivorous but feeds mainly on small invertebrates. Important food fish.
